Mary Lucille “Lucy” Freije, 83, of Indianapolis, IN, died March 8, 2016. Lucy was born on December 12, 1932, to Mary and Paul H. Wilson. For 61 years, she was married to her best friend, Dick Freije, Sr., whom she met in the 4th grade. Graduating valedictorian from Ben Davis High School in 1951, she worked as a civilian for the United States Air Force in Indianapolis and then for Purdue University Research in West Lafayette until Dick graduated from Purdue. The couple then traveled to Texas where Lucy worked for the United States Air Force while Dick served as an officer before returning to Indianapolis. She then worked for 13 years for William F. Freije Inc. after starting a family.
Lucy was the devoted mother of three sons, Dick, Jr., David, and Mark Freije, an adoring grandmother of 10 grandchildren, and an excellent homemaker. Lucy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sharing her joy and infectious laughter with family, friends and neighbors. Lucy was a frequent volunteer in the community, including at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Gardens and Crossroads Rehabilitation Center. A ministry volunteer and usher at Second Presbyterian Church for more than 15 years, Lucy was an expert in making everyone feel welcome in her presence. We will miss her love and hospitality.

Dear Freije Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Freije’s passing. I have many fond memories of our idyllic childhood on Ecole Street. Mrs. Freije was always so kind to me. I can still hear her calling the Freije boys in for dinner…”Dick, David, Mark…” Blessings to you and much love.
Kenda Friend says
Dear Freije Family – you are in our prayers at this sad time. Lucy was a “founding member” of our LOBE neighborhood and always had a smile to share. Her kindness and spirit as we all rallied after 9/11 is something I will always remember. In peace, Kenda

Dick (Freije family)
Our hearts grieve for the loss of your beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Scripture is a great comforter to us. We trust you might find solace in Psalms 116:15 – “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”.
Please know Lucy belongs to the One who created her … praying for you and the strength to endure. May God richly bless you during your bereavement time.
